So today I made all of the UV Maps for the interrogation room. I'm kinda freaked out that it took me six hours, is it supposed to take that long? :-/ Then again this is only my third time making UV Maps, but meh, at least I got it done right?
I'm a bit worried about the maps I made though, I'm not sure if I mapped them out correctly.
But anyways I'm going to post them, even though they're blank, just so I can tell myself that I actually did something today. :P

UV mapping is a heinous thing. Be glad you're mapping something inorganic :p It can take forever if you want anything more than slapping a colored material onto an object.
ReplyDeleteThey look fine for what they're for. The chair legs for example, would be too compressed to add detail to but since they're a metal chair leg it doesn't really matter.
My suggestion for UV mapping in general is to constantly check your maps by painting something on them and applying them to the object to see if everything is alright. It helps a lot early on, especially if you're doing something organic. Often times a fix in that respect lies not in the map but in the actual construction of the object.
Thankfully there are a lot of programs out there than can help. I like Headus UVLayout, but there are others.
It looks good so far, just make sure to check everything to ensure that your textures will be applying to the objects correctly. Although even if they don't, it's easy to make a new map or fix one and then paste in the work.
Thank you so much for your suggestions Cody!! Headus UVLayout looks great, I'll definitely try that out.
