So I definitely failed today during concept art. Tried to tighten up my environment drawings but that didn't work out too well. :-/
Only thing I got out of today was a couple of dragon sketches for the elemental dragon series I'd like to do at some point.
Water: This guy's supposed to have waterfalls flowing from his mouth, should probably change his eye color though.
Air: This one's supposed to be sleak and able to fly through the air efficiently.
This is one o' those days where I just feel like I have no future in this field. :[

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't say that! you do have a future! a VERY bright one! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the water one :) I think it'll look really cool with water flowing from him :)
Even if you don't feel like it today, you are amazing. and you have a talent :) I'm glad I get to see it!
I think everyone has those days. I have like... one a week.
ReplyDeleteYou have a whimsy in your style that I think you should capitalize on and I think the Dragons are a good way to do that. I especially like the Water one as I'm a big fan of the jutting, bony chin style. I feel like if you mastered your style you would produce things not dissimilar to Wayne Reynolds. Don't ask why I think that, because I'm not even sure myself. Maybe it's because of your command with the color palette.
If it makes you feel any better, I've been working on the same spot in my environment for three days now... I think that means it's time for me to move on to a new picture :p I find that the assignment-structure of classes is actually counter productive to improvement for a lot of people - improving doesn't always mean a finished piece. I know a lot of people who improve more by going as far as they can on a piece, ditching it and starting a new one.
Anyways, keep at it, you've got [skills to pay the bills]! And don't forget to relish the little victories you get as an artist, sometimes they keep you going :p
Thank you both for the uplifting comments! :D
ReplyDeleteI looked up Wayne Reynolds and he has some pretty awesome work! Another artist for me to look up to. :D
I agree with your comment about most class structure. I often ditch what I'm working on to start something else in order to learn a new technique or because I just get excited about a new idea.
I think your environment project looks great! Just as side note, haha. :P
